OUR TEAM

  • With 20 years experience in the glass and glazing industry (if you count internships, and we do at SDC) it’s safe to say I’ve seen it all in this industry. The start of my career was focused on window replacement at schools and historic lofts, transitioned into the storefront and curtainwall (stick and unitized). Multi-family window projects have become a big part of our day to day in the last few years while maintaining a focus on the latest in storefront and curtainwall innovation.

In my career my biggest driver is innovation.  Why do we do things a certain way, can we do them better?  The answer is always yes, and we strive for that at SDC.  Working through the supply chain from developers to manufacturers allows us to see projects at every stage, seeing where we can provide more efficiencies and more often redundancies to improve upon.

As a BSME from the Missouri S&T, I love a challenge, particularly one that has been giving the industry fits for years.  Deciding an engineering degree wasn’t enough punishment, I went ahead and pursued a Masters Degree in Mathematics, and another in Business.  Learning is very important to me and has been a big contributor to my success in an industry full of knowledge.

Outside of the office, I love watching and playing sports.  Taking my son and daughter to Cardinal and Blues games, tagging along to my wife’s softball, and teaching the boy how to catch a ball without using his face.  Golf is a favorite activity (though more of a love / hate), and generally just hanging out with the family around the house.

  • I’ve spent the last 9+ years touching every part of the project life-cycle in my various roles.  Whether it was helping with conceptual napkin sketch project pursuits, managing and coordinating the work of multiple trades, understanding the specific details of specialty trade installs, or developing solutions within the erratic supply chain, I’ve developed an understanding of how the different levels of the construction process can both positively and negatively impact each other.

The beginning of my career focused heavily on general contracting.  Through this experience I found a passion for preconstruction and estimating, with a heavy focus on carpentry and glazing related work.   My most recent experience focused on working directly with manufactures and developing solutions for projects that came across supply change challenges.

By touching each level of a project, my goal is to make sure projects understand the upstream and downstream impacts that each decision can have. The “engineer” in me loves processes. In my schooling for my BSCE from SIUE and obtaining my PE license, it was engrained in me that we can always improves our processes from the way things used to be done.

For fun, I love spending time with my family.  My wife and I have a son and two gold retrievers (if you are a pet person you know end up loving them like your children…).  We love spending time outdoors and going on family walks.   The love for college basketball runs deep in our house and the month of March turns into a national holiday for the Horton house.  North Carolina and Illinois are our two favorite teams that enjoy breaking our hearts and raising our blood pressure a few nights a week from November-April every year.  The love I have for golf may match Tony’s, but unfortunately my skill level will never come close.

  • I have spent the last 5+ years in the glass and glazing industry, primarily as a project manager. My time until now has been overseeing projects after they have been awarded. From the submittal process, to procurement of materials, to managing the final installation. The jobs I was responsible for were primarily historic window replacement and storefront and curtainwall.

Prior to entering this industry I received a BS in business from Missouri State University where I also obtained an MBA. After college I spent 6+ years in the aerospace industry working in procurement.

Outside of the office my wife and I have two dogs, a Boston Terrier named Duncan and a big yellow dog named Avett. I spend a lot of time at my gym whether it be working out or coaching. I also enjoy watching and playing a wide range of sports. Baseball and hockey are my favorites.

  • I come to SDC with 2 years of industry experience and where I may lack deep technical knowledge, I believe I make up for it with a creative mind geared towards problem solving and delivering solutions. As a project manager, I am always willing to dig deep and sort through pain points to make sure my customers are taken care of.

My professional background started in Exercise Science, where I received my B.S from Lindenwood University in St. Charles. While the construction business may seem like worlds apart, I find there to be key similarities between the two. Both groups require precise timing and coordination to complete important tasks.

In my spare time, I like just about anything involving the outdoors. Hiking, fishing, hunting, camping…the list goes on and on. I enjoy grilling year round, good whiskey, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
